CULTIVATING YOUR HAT COLLECTION // SPRING + SUMMER

When it comes to styling an outfit, I always focus on the one or two pieces that are going to make it CHIC.  As most of you know, my closet is full of basics, staples, and neutrals so I'm constantly gravitating towards accessories that are going to change a casual tee + denim combination into something killer.  Over the years, I've invested in pretty handbags, designer jewelry, and to-die-for shoes and although those things are all amazing, I've learned that it doesn't always take all of that to make an outfit pop.  Sometimes it's as simple as a HAT.  Now, I know what you're thinking, not everyone can pull off every hat or some even a hat at all.  (I have friends that say that and as much as I want to push them to do it, I love their confidence in knowing when to say nah, not for me.)  There are certain styles and materials that I gravitate towards every time and others that look terrible on me.  It's all about trial and error and knowing what works for you, may not work for everyone and vice versa.  However, when it comes down to it and you get it right, there's just something about a hat that can totally make your look.  Lounge or casual wear?  Throw on a baseball cap.  Swimsuit and cover up?  Reach for your straw hat.  (Which also blocks the sun from your face - win, win!)  All black look for a night out with the girls?  Add a fisherman cap.  Such an easy, and usually inexpensive addition, that can take your basic look to super chic, instantly.
During warmer months, my straw hats are everything.  I reach for them on pool days, with causal outfits, to travel with, etc.  Over the last couple of years, I've focused on cultivating a timeless collection.  Once I learned what my favorite style/shape was, I started investing in hats that are classic enough to wear for years to come. By far, my two favorite brands are Janessa Leone and Lack of Color.  All different price points, some more than others, but they are worth every penny.  And if you're anything like me, they make pretty decor, too!
Here are a few of my favorites in each category:
