Antique Chest | Gold Mirror | Horse Print | Vintage Botanical Print | Feather Frame | Diptyque Candle | Vintage Brass Candle Holder | Vintage Gucci Ashtray | Dior Book | Chloè Book | Vintage Water Jug {love this}
Hi there, lovelies -
I hope you're all having a great week so far!  I'm so excited to finally share some of the content we shot a few weeks ago while styling the cottage for Fall!  As most of you may know from instastories, J and I found this antique chest a couple of months ago and thought it would totally complete our entry way.  We have two concrete benches on one wall with a large, round mirror and an acrylic trip-pod lamp beside it.  It's one of the only areas in our home that has a very modern, LA vibe to it, so we knew we wanted something vintage + cozy on the other (entryway) wall.  We love mixing old + new - opposites always attract, in my opinion!
  My sweet friend, Kelly from Ford Studio Designs, helped me style + bring this chest to life and I'm so in love with the way it turned out.  Here are a few tips to keep in mind when styling a blank slate:
1. LAYER
None of these three framed pieces (the mirror, horse print, and botanical print) looked great for this space on their own, but layered, they add such character.  Also, I love that all three pieces have different texture/color.  The gold mirror serves as the perfect background, the horse print in the distressed frame adds a touch of vintage, and the botanical print brings in a neutral element.  Last but not least, I have to talk about my little Zsa Zsa feather.  As most of you probably know, we lost our sweet Zsa a couple of months ago and this little feather was one of the only feathers I was able to hold onto.  I thought about what to do with it for weeks and finally decided to frame it for this space.  Although bittersweet, it's such a sweet memory and I wouldn't take anything for it.
2. FRESH CLIPPINGS
I always love having fresh flowers in the house, but there's something about simple greenery that really makes a statement.  I just told the story of this vintage water jug on my instagram and love how oversized it is.  Our property is lined with camellia's (my favorite flower) so we're constantly cutting fresh clippings off of them to use inside.  The dark, bold leaves are so stunning!
3. CANDLES + BOOKS
In my opinion, you can never have enough candles or books.  I have them in every room, basically on every table.  Candles not only add fragrance to your home, but also bring such a cozy ambiance to your space after dark.  Lamps and candlelight are everything, especially when entertaining!  No one likes a harsh, overhead light.  As far as books go, we have so many that we LOVE.  I've collected fashion books for years, but also a few home + garden books, too.  We especially love picking them up while traveling to add to our collection!  Regardless of what they're about, books are so easy to add to any space and instantly bring texture + meaning to your space.
These three tips have helped us so much and are usually so easy for pulling together things you already have lying around the house.  Let me know on instagram or in the comments below if you want to see more how to's and before/afters!
Thanks so much for stopping by, X.
