Stylish Accessories

Happy Hump Day!!

Good Morning—I hope everyone had an amazing Valentine’s Day!  I know we did—I’m working on a post for tomorrow to share our Vday fun with everyone!  Today I wanted to Blog about one of my favorite things, accessories!  I am a little obsessed with buying the “small things” that make an outfit work.  Don’t get me wrong, I love purchasing skinny jeans, chiffon tops and fun blazers, but when it comes to the accessories, that’s right up my alley.  There’s just so many to choose from!!  You have your staple pieces like shoes, belts, handbags and jewelry but there’s so much more.  You may need a crocheted hat, a warm pair of cashmere gloves and a long scarf in the Winter and swim cover ups, a straw fedora and a pair of sunglasses for the Summer—the possibilities are endless!  Accessories can make or break an outfit, especially according to the Season.  A pair of white linen pants and a navy tank are great for a casual, warm day, but add a pair of Tory Burch flats, a nautical clutch and a set of fabulous gold bangles and you’ve completely transformed the outfit.  Or in the Winter, throwing on a pair of skinny jeans and a black turtleneck is easy, but add a pair of flat cognac boots, a Burberry scarf and some lovely gold studs and you’ve taken the outfit from simple to chic in seconds.

When it comes to staple accessories, try to splurge a little. (Don’t tell your husband this was my idea!)  These pieces are going to be your classic, go to accessories and you will want them to be well made and of good quality.  For a staple handbag, try to go with something that will last.  Of course if we all had money growing on trees out back, we’d have every color Birkin bag ever invented.  Instead, go for a leather Michael Kors bag that has the same glamorous look and that you will feel proud carrying.  As far as belts go, luckily they won’t tie up very much money like a handbag will.  You can find nice, trendy belts at most of your fave stores for around $25-$45.  Banana Republic and J Crew have great belts that always look fabulous.  For a staple belt, stick to the basic colors—black, gold or silver and cognac.  My go to belts are skinny, either metallic or patent leather and have gold hardware.  Whatever you love is what you’ll feel most comfortable wearing and find yourself pulling out the closet day after day.  Now, on to my favorite subject—shoes.  If any of you have visited my “shoe room”, you’ve witnessed my obsession firsthand.  Of course the staple shoe is going to be a black pump.  You can dress it up or down and wear it with almost anything.  I find myself grabbing my black heels to throw on at least 3-4 times a week.   But with shoes, there’s no limit to success with an outfit—just buy what makes your heart happy, or that’s my motto anyway!  For jewelry I like to keep my staple accessories simple.  Of course the most important are my wedding rings and sentimental pieces that I would never leave the house without.  As far as earrings, a classy set of pearls or a pair of small diamond studs are my go to.  And I am obsessed with wearing a watch—I feel so lost if I ever forget it!  Plus watches add a great little “extra” to an already fabulous outfit.  For gloves, hats and scarfs it’s really about personal preference.  When I think about cold weather, I always want that cozy feeling, so my go to is cashmere.  Nothing beats the material and it comes in all different styles and colors.  Statement jewelry (which of course is a little trendier, but nonetheless fun to wear) can range from big bangles to long earrings to chunky necklaces.  It’s all about bright colors and the bigger the better!  Sunglasses are a must, I mean no one wants wrinkles from squinting when they’re 30.  There are so many different types of sunglasses, it’s really about knowing which shape fits your face the best.  My favorite are aviators and cat eye’s because I have a long, narrow face shape.  Someone with a round or wider face shape might be better off with large frame sunglasses or sunglasses with thick sides. (I wish I could pull these off!) Once again, it’s all about what you feel lovely in.
